There are no globally mandated uniform dimensions for perfume outer packaging boxes, but the industry has “common reference ranges” based on bottle capacity (30/50/100ml). The actual dimensions must be determined by the length, width, and height of the bottle itself, the spray nozzle, and the highest point of the cap. The box type (folding cardboard box / hinged box / book-shaped box) will also affect the outer diameter.

Below is a set of reference values ​​for inner diameters (bottling space), which are common floor-standing dimensions in the industry, in mm (length × width × height, height including bottle cap):

Common inner diameters for single-bottle folding cardboard boxes (color boxes):

10ml test tube/ball bearing: Approximately 40×40×75 (or 35×35×90, slim and tall)

30ml (1oz): 75–90 × 40–50 × 90–110 (square bottles commonly around 80×80×100)

50ml (1.7oz): 90–100 × 55–60 × 120–130 (square bottles commonly around 55×55×140)

100ml (3.4oz): 105–120 × 60–70 × 140–160 (square bottles commonly 75×75×150)
Gift boxes/hard boxes: The outer diameter is usually larger than the inner diameters mentioned above on each side. +3~6mm (depending on the thickness of the grey board (1000–1200g) or whether it’s laminated cardboard)

Common inch diameters for US customers: 30ml

2×2×4″, 50ml

2.25×2.25×5″, 100ml

2.75×2.75×6″.

Leave tolerances in the design (very important, otherwise it won’t fit or will wobble). The inner diameter should be 1.5–2mm larger on each side than the “maximum width × depth × total height (including cap)”. If too tight, it won’t fit after gluing; if too loose, the bottle will wobble and get scratched.

If adding EVA/paper trays/blister packs inside the box: the tray itself occupies 2–4mm of wall thickness, and the inner diameter should be increased by 1–2mm beyond the outer edge of the tray. Mark the inner diameter of folded cardboard boxes; for rigid boxes (grey board laminated with paper), be sure to mark the inner depth/inner length/inner width + The gray board needs to be thick; otherwise, the factory will have to make it according to the external dimensions, resulting in a wasted product.

How to match boxes for several typical bottle types:

Cylindrical bottles: Boxes are generally made square (not round). Inner side length = bottle diameter + 3~4mm, height = total bottle height + 3~5mm top clearance.

Flat square bottles: Measure the widest side, avoiding measuring only the bottom (many bottles bulge in the middle).

Irregularly shaped/sculpted bottles: First, 3D print a bottle mold or make a white sample from a real bottle. Don’t directly cut a mold according to the drawings—a 2mm error in perfume bottle design will cause the cap to stick.
